MILITARY COMMUNITIES: RESPONDING TO CHANGE

Early Bird Countdown

Boston is known for being the economic and cultural hub of New England as well as being at the forefront of American history. From the Boston Massacre site to the Bunker Hill Monument, Boston is a great summer destination for anyone wanting to experience a true American adventure.

ADC’s 2009 Annual Conference will take place at the Westin Boston Waterfront, conveniently located near the upscale district of Back Bay. ADC attendees are invited to stay on site at this hotel, which is offering special rates for the conference.

Boston’s Military – Past and Present

Boston’s deep historic roots not only define its culture, they shape an amazing military background that is still present today. Several major events from the American Revolution occurred in Boston, making way for an exemplary military city.

The Boston region has active military bases, including Hanscom Air Force Base and the Massachusetts Military Reservation (MMR). Hanscom is the headquarters of the Electronic Systems Center and is known for maintaining a high quality lifestyle for military personnel, their families and base workers. Also nearby is the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station, which closed in 1997 as a result of the 1995 BRAC Closure List. Redevelopment plans at the former air station include a combination of residential villages, shops, businesses and green space in a $43 million acquisition.

The state of Massachusetts continues to be one of America’s leading centers for defense research and development, creating the next generation of weaponry and, as a result, creating numerous high-skilled jobs. As the state’s capital, Boston is a center for defense spending and contracting.

Boston’s intricate military history and its current position in America’s defense strategies make this a perfect host for the 2009 ADC Annual Conference.
